Needed- Old heatsink/fan, power extension

Postby Docjon » Thu May 18, 2017 1:34 am

I need a stock heatsink/fan for a core2 duo

http://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA- ... -rev-10#ov

And a little weirder, an extension for this cable:

Image

This is for my dedicated Rocksmith rig. It's obviously all old parts, and I don't want to spend much more on it. I used to have it sitting flat on a shelf, and it made a godawful racket, like a fanblade hitting something. I assumed it was because it was set up all ghetto, without a case, but when I put it in the new case, it still makes a racket. REALLY unusable at that noise level for any purpose, but for music, it's especially nerve-wracking.

I can't find any wires getting near any fan I can get at (CPU/GPU), and the case fans are all new of course - the PS is obviously hard to deal with in that regard, and I'm going to refrain from opening it, because BZZZZZAAATTTTT!!!!!!!!!!! I guess something's warped and the blades are hitting a heatsink.

I can't, in any reasonably easy way, replace the video card fan, so I'm going for the CPU. I think that's it anyway. It's hard for me to check right now - I'm having some side-effects from my meds, or else they just aren't working.

If you look at the picture above, the black-and-yellow motherboard power wires are stretched across the case in as a direct line as I can, but it's still on the short side. The motherboard is actually lifted up a bit in that corner because of that wire. I need something to extend it. I don't even know what it's called, though. Figure that's not good, and I'd like to fix that.

I'll probably just order them, but I thought I'd ask if anyone has one sitting around, or can at least tell me the name of that wire so I know what to buy.

I tend to ramble, and the meat of the post gets lost in the gravy and vegetable medley. What I really need to know is: What is the name of that black & yellow power cord running from lower right to upper left? I need to buy a extension for it, as my motherboard is pulled up by it. It's at max extension.

Don't rely on email notifications, come here and click NEW POSTS. Never fails to work.

I got my power cable, thanks Paladin. When putting it in, I investigated the rattling sound. Turns out the fan for my video card is going bad. I don't think it's hitting anything, it's just going bad. It's loud as hell. It's not QUITE as bad as it was, now that it's in a case, but damn, no one here would use it, and it's only use was for Rocksmith. MUSIC. There's no way I'll be able to get a replacement fan for it. Maybe I'll go on Reddit and see if I can beg an old gfx card off someone. I forget what card that's in it now, but it's pretty old. Think it's the one that couldn't run Battlefield Bad Company 2 at more than 15 fps. Really not a gfx-intensive game at all.

Fuck computers. It's always something.

OK, I'm gonna ask, even though everyone's had big expenses or otherwise exhausted their 'old parts' piles in recent years. I'm using a gts 250 in my Rocksmith machine, and its fan is going bad. Makes a holy racket, and who knows how long it will work. It's about 8 or 9 years old, and hits 895 on the PassMark GPU benchmark. Anyone have an old gfx card in a box somewhere that can hit about 900 in Passmark they can spare? I'll throw you some cash, I can mail a check or use PayPal or whatever. Not much, but $20 -$25 to offset your costs and trouble. I just don't want to spend $59 + tax/shipping on a machine I'm trying to put together from old parts, particularly after all the problems I've had with my machines recently. My g502's acting up now too, and I'm still not sure what's gonna happen there. Also, I splurged and paid $40 to upgrade my smart phone from my old $9.99 model, and it looks like that was a waste. Turns out that model comes in both GSM and CDMA, and for some reason that escapes me, even though it's just about useless here, the Wal-Mart 2 miles from my house was selling the CDMA phone, and OF COURSE they can't simply TELL you that, you have to interpret a couple numbers at the end of the model number a "43" at the end is CDMA, and a "44" is GSM. Fucking assholes.

I don't really want to buy used off ebay either. You never know what you're getting. So, any of you got anything left in your box o' junk in the back of your closet?

Firzt, take th ephone back and exchange it obviously. i :) i
Second does RS require a higher end graphic card? I mean it does not display anything complicated does it?

I have an nVidia Quadro K600 you can have, brand new. It ships with Dell PC's.
It is very basic of course, small card, required no additional power etc.

My HTPC needed a reboot and after I rebooted it I and could NOT get it to boot again. This is the only PC I have an SSD. Fucking SSD's sometimes....
The data is still there but no repair option would allow it to boot again. The PC was fine but I said fuck it and used my spare PC I was saving for other stuff.
I figured if I was going to have to re-install everything AGAIN I may as well upgrade again.

Anyway that card was in there and I put in my old 670 or whatever I was using so I can do 4K on it.

If you want this, its yours.

My bad card scored 895 on Passmark, the K600 scores 826, not much of a difference. This site claims the k600 will work with Rocksmith, but I'm not familiar with the site.

Yeah, RS doesn't take much in terms of graphics powers, nor CPU power. I guess it should work. The last time I asked about this sort of thing, people were making jokes, saying they could run Rocksmith on their microwave and things like that. Thanks, I appreciate it.
