Update: OK, looks like my old motherboard doesn't like anything above 3TB. Though I'd suspected it was the case, it wasn't all that easy to CONFIRM it. My nifty new 8TB HDD will remain an external drive, until I upgrade my system, anyway.

Maybe, if I can find a deal on a fan-cooled single-drive enclosure, I'll pick one up, as the stock one gets quite hot. I'd want one that let me pass the cable through. Not sure what would happen if I removed the stock SATA to USB adapter, then plugged it into an enclosure that would convert the SATA to USB. Don't want something weird to happen to the data already on the drive.
I've used Truecrypt for years, and I'm happy with how it works, and it provides
enough security for my needs. HOWEVER, I am concerned that since development ceased 3 or more years back, one of these days a Windows update will break it and leave my Truecrypt partition unusable.
I tried Veracrypt, and it seems just fine, in that it largely works exactly like Truecrypt. Unfortunately, it takes about 30 seconds for it to mount my encrypted partition, AND
THAT'S TOOOOOOOOOOO FUCK-IN' LONG! (
Click on that link in front of your boss, and the Pope.)
I haven't fucked about with computers for 35+ years just to end up in 2017 waiting 30 seconds to mound a friggin' partition. Fuck that shit. Truecrypt worries me, Veracript pisses me off. Now I'm playing with Bitlocker. Only problem there is that you have to reboot the machine to lock the partition again, once you've used the password to unlock it. It's for security, but we've already established I don't require high security. There are supposed to be ways around that, with batch files and the like. I'll investigate that later tonight.
