It supposedly has 3rd-party ink carts available for it that work with it. I see them for sale and new reviews say they work.

I got it because it's the same price as an OEM black ink cart for my Epson, and because I do a lot of scanning of documents lately with my medical issues and such. It will be VERY NICE to put the sheets in the hopper and set it loose, instead of swapping page after page, lifting the top and placing the document on the glass. It's surprisingly time-consuming doing it that way. I'll keep my old Epson and new Brother, and use whichever for it's best/cheapest purpose.
