Remember HEXEN?

This reminds me of it. 75% off this week ($3.74)

I'm tempted by it, but I don't know if I'd play such a game now. I'd probably be better off waiting and grabbing Doom the next time it had a good sale, given the great reviews you guys gave it. I'll think about it, it's on sale until Sunday. Ppl on PatientGamers are talking about how they're liking this one.

Doesn;t this remind you of Hexen though? And the gfx are MUCH better.

Maybe a little in the presentation. It's more cartoony and less demonic.

I feel like it's a variation on the same theme. Hexen might be a good property resurrect next, instead of beating the Doom and Quake horse forever. Hell, they brought back Shadow Warrior.

There are other ones they could dig up as well.

Looking at old games screen shots like that I find it so hard to believe that not only did we not seem to mind the shitty graphics, sometimes we raved how good they were! I rarely recall us bitching about how bad hey were back then.

I think that is a good example of a physiological experiment really. Human nature seems to accept its surroundings as the norm even if it is not as good as one would prefer.

For the longest time, I thought the coloring and textures of most WINDOWS games were vomit. Like, they'd take a picture of vomit and say to the artists, "See how much you can make the walls and floors look like this.", or "This is how we want the spaceship to look." Back when I worked at the electronics store, I'd look at the displays and say, "Yeah, the games are doing some interesting things, but why all the vomit?"

Say what you will, but there was something about the Amiga's graphics that none of the games looked like vomit. They might not have been as good in other ways, but they they didn't look like that.

There's only so far back I'm willing to go. I bought the Unreal games awhile back when they were on sale. I loved UT '99, and thought I might revisit the single player Unreal games. Damn. I remember them looking SO good. I remember the amazing reflections and such in Unreal, but when I went back...not so good. I think 2007 is about as far back as I want to go now, roughly.

THAT is exactly what I am talking about. How things used to look good to us but now look like crap. How could crap ever look good? I mean it is weird to me when I think about it. So UT does not look good anymore? I can't remember what it looked like but I also loved that game.

When 3D models first became a thing, graphics tanked a bit. Low textures but you had polygons!

OK, it's down to a dollar, and you get two other games with it.
