Looking to build a couple machines and need some old parts. Nothing fancy. Even broken rigs with salvageable parts would be good. So, if you have stuff to sell or give away let me know. Again, nothing fancy. Anything mid 2000's+ should be good age wise.

Let me go to the graveyard and see what I have.

Thanks DD. Now is when I wish I didn't sell everyhthing everytime I upgrade. Almost picked up and old Dell 2850. But, figure and old rack server with a pair of Xeon chips was overkill in the power usage department for my planned projects.

No problem. Wife will be happy to see some of it go. She's always on my ads about the amount of hardware I have. I'm decommissioning her pc in a couple weeks as well so that will add to the graveyard.
What do you plan on doing and are in need of?

Need mobo/cpu/ram for a FreeNAS box. Ideal would be a server board, but I can make almost anything work.
Also looking at a PFSense box. For that, any Core2 Duo or better would work. But I am looking for super cheap/free for most of this. Will pay shipping. I have some other parts I will have to spend more money on, like drives.

If I can not find something dirt cheap I have my eye on a socket 1150 Supermicro board. Figure that paired with a G1840 and 16GB of ECC will be a good start. Then what ever cheap stuff I get my hands on can be my PFSense machine. Might even just build a cheap machine with the same CPU for that too. Just get a cheap but reliable Asus or Intel mobo and a couple Intel NIC's for the WAN/LAN ports.

Luckily right now there are a TON of cheap PC's on sale right now. I mean CHEAP! Not good for any main use but good for your project.
FWIW I have an HTPC that is always on and I connect and share drives from that. That is what I use to store and share files, works really well and I don't use any special software or anything, just windows.

Nothing wrong with that man. Playing with that stuff can be fun. I had fun setting up my plex server then the XBMC software to get a full multimedia setup etc... It is fun at times once it works. i

FreeNAS is XBMC uber focused on being a bad ass NAS with ZFS support. There is a Plex plugin for it. As well as many others. Not sure how well Plex works on a low end chip though. Even a modern one. Been reading and guys running plex on top of ZFS are using lower spec E3 and E5 Xeon chips. So, yeah..
