I ordered an item for $25 and change last night that was sold by and fulfilled by Amazon itself. This afternoon, I checked and the item had dropped to $18 and change. I poked around and found their online chat function hidden away, and told the support person, "Look, I ordered this yesterday, it hasn't been 24 hours, the price has dropped about 30%, and it hasn't even shipped yet. I'd like my price adjusted."
Support person went away for a couple minutes and posted a policy that says Amazon does not adjust prices after an order. I told her that I'd like to cancel the order, then. She said that even though it hasn't shipped yet, it's too late to cancel it. She offered me $5 credit on my account. It's not as much as the price difference, but it's something. Glad it wasn't a $100 difference on a monitor, as the $5 would have just pissed me off. It's only a credit, but I'm certain to purchase from Amazon again, so it will be money saved.
Kind of annoyed they wouldn't adjust the price - I have Prime, and the item hadn't even shipped yet! Oh well, things like this will make me feel better when I can't re-up my Prime in November.
They used to just adjust it more in the past. I have got a refund within 30 days in the past.
I think the pricing is so competitive through them they started backing down on doing it. Also they are so huge now they honestly, simply, don't have to.
Was the new price also fulfilled through them? Sometimes stuff through them gets pushed down when a 3rd party lowers their pricing.
You did the right thing making sure what you ordered was through them because if it isn't you have even less leeway.
I learned that lesson. If possible ALWAYS order with the option that it is fulfilled through Amazon if at all possible.

Example, I just replaced my smart watch and didn't pay attention to that. But the description said it was the US version but when I got it it wasn't.
So I ordered another from a different vendor (Still not Amazon) and guess what? It was also NOT the US version even though the description said it was. So I contacted Amazon and they told me to order again making sure it was fulfilled by them. I did and it was and it was the correct version this time. So i had to send back two watched, Sheesh...
The Non US watch worked perfectly fine hey just did not have the Samsung Pay ability which I wanted sine it is part of the watch.
Anyway as for honoring the new price, they have done it for me but I spend a LOT on that site. I tell them to look at my orders. Even then it can just depend on who you talk to or luck. I have also been turned down.
One option is to just let it ship to you then return it. Ordering the other one at the reduced price while it ships.
Of course in your case that is much harder or near impossible. I get it.
You should put $10/month aside to renew it. You know you will anyway. You NEED Amazon, no you HAVE TO HAVE Amazon, to get stuff sent to you since you never leave the house.
I let mine go when it expires but that is to just extend it. Sometimes I don't need to order for months so just renew when I do. Then I get a year from that date. A few times it was 3 or 4 months so that saves me some that way. But once I need to order again I just renew it unless it is something that still has free shipping and I am not in a hurry.
