Nvidia Reports Huge Decline In GPU Sales for Cryptocurrency Mining

Demand for in the cryptocurrency mining world appears to be plummeting.

On Thursday, Nvidia reported a huge drop in GPU sales for cryptocurrency mining rigs during this year's second quarter, when Bitcoin's value sunk to a yearly low. Nvidia originally anticipated "cryptocurrency-specific product revenue" reaching $100 million during the quarter, but it actually came in at a mere $18 million, the company's CFO Colette Kress said in an earnings .

Prophet wrote:In the mid and budget category, they are toe to toe with Nvidia. Driver support can be a little slower for new games, but that's about it. Multi GPU is still really only really doable with Nvida. AMD has no high-end products currently. The best Vega cards from them are about on par with a 1080. No 1080ti or Titan competitor.

Hmm. I was never going to afford anything over a 1070 in normal circumstances. Prices would have to come down and I'd have to catch a pricing error or a hell of a double-promotion to swing a 1070ti. I'd love one though.

New cards are coming out this year, prices ar [...]

If you don't yet have Prime you may want to get it before then to save for this year!

That equates to only $10/month, which is still a good deal if you buy a lot and/or stream a lot of content.

With that said I know business is business but I am personally a little disappointed. They are a huge company and not hurting for profits.
Then again even Netflix recently raised rates. If it gives us new cool original content shows it is worth it I suppose.

Amazon announced on its earnings call Thursday that the price of its Prime mem [...]

Graphics card makers will be “forced to slash prices” after GPU shipments fall by 40%

https://www.pcgamesn.com/graphics-card-shipments-40-percent-down

After six months or more of graphics cards either being unavailable, or being sold well above MSRP, it looks like we may finally get a break and be able to buy cards at a reasonable price again. Here's hoping - it's been so bad that used cards sell for MSRP or more on Ebay.

View the latest post Nvidia moving Fermi (500 series) legacy, also kills 32-bit

This week, NVIDIA has announced that they are ending mainstream graphics driver support for Fermi-based GeForce GPUs. Effective as of this month (i.e. immediately), all Fermi products are being moved to legacy support status, meaning they will no longer receive Game Ready driver enhancements, performance optimizations, and bugfixes. Instead, they will only receive critical bugfixes through the end of the legacy support phase in January 2019.

While the announcement mentions ‘Fermi series GeForce GPUs,’ the actual support plan specifies that mainstream driver support is limited to Kepler, Maxwell [...]
